How to connect a Keyboard and Mouse to your Android phone/tablet
Now, writing long emails or chatting with your peers from your Android tablet/phone could be a cakewalk. To chat for hours on end, one just misses a keyboard. For serious Web browsing, a mouse could also have worked better. Now, you could also connect a keyboard or even a mouse or even both together and turn your Android tablet into a full-fledged net book.
There are 2 ways to make this happen. You would just need the following things to make this work. While, for the X way would cater if you plan to use a USB Keyboard and Mouse, the Y way caters to those who plan to use their PS/2 keyboard and mice.
For the X way, you would need the following:
For the Y way, you would need the following:
- A USB OTG Cable (or make one yourself)
- A USB to PS/2 Converter
The USB OTG cable would be needed in either way you try to connect. So, let’s get the Micro USB cable first.
If you are based in US, you may buy one of these adapters from the company store (like this) which will cost you around 20$. It is also hard to find it from a local store. It is far better to get one of these from Amazon @ a price 10 times lower. They are cheap as they do not carry the brand-name but are at par in every other way.
In India, it is not available from the company store, so you have the only option to buy it from somewhere else. You may try to get one of these from a local store but they are hard to find. Some common places where you will find them are Chandni Chowk in Kolkata, Lakshmi Market in Pune, Heera Panna Market in Mumbai, Gaffar Market in Delhi. Else , it is best to order online.
Once, you have got your USB OTG cable you need to get a USB Hub or a USB PS/2 converter. While you could choose USB PS/2 converters from anywhere, be aware that all USB hubs won’t work, as they do not support multiple devices at one point of time. To use your keyboard and mouse together, you need a USB Hub that supports multiple devices at one point of time. Below are a list of such hubs:
1. Connect the USB OTG cable to your phone/tablet
2. Connect the USB Hub to your USB OTG cable end
3. Plug in your Keyboard and Mouse
Following the Y way i.e. if you are planning to use a PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse:
1. Connect the USB OTG cable to your tablet/phone
2. Connect the USB to PS/2 converter to your USB OTG Cable end
3. Plug in your PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse
